OFFICERS LOCATE WOMAN'S BODY
The body of Mrs. Gwen Johnson, 61, 2085 Hollywood Ave., Salt Lake City, was recovered about 10 p.m. Tuesday from the Diamond Fork area of Spanish Fork Canyon.
Lt. Owen Quarnberg, Utah County Sheriff's office, said Mrs. Johnson's body was located after her husband, Norman O. Johnson, 51, was found earlier in the afternoon by three men in a four-wheel drive vehicle. Mrs. Johnson apparently died of exertion and exposure.
The couple had been stranded in the canyon since Sunday when their car became high-centered on a canyon road.
Mr. Johnson was reported in fair condition in Utah Valley Hospital, Provo, Wednesday afternoon suffering from shock and exposure.
Lt. Quarnberg said there was about 14 to 16 inches of snow in the road where Mrs. Johnson was found and said, "I don't know how he (Mr. Johnson) ever made it out himself."
He said the area where the body was located was about seven miles from what is known as the Springville Crossing, a road which takes the motorist either over into Hobble Creek Canyon or up to Strawberry Reservoir.
The Johnsons had apparently mistakenly taken the road going to Strawberry when they became stranded.
******
She had three children.
