Wife of Chauncy Fair. Eliza Catherine is somewhat of a mystery. Her death certificate indicates she was the daugher of Daniel Gerkey and Matilida Faust. To the best of my knowledge, Daniel never married Matilida Faust. He married Catherine Mintzer first and she died in 1847 and is buried next to George and Rachel Gerkey in Ashland Ohio. Her headstone states she was the wife of Daniel Gerkey. Daniel married within a year to Polly (Mary) Erb. Eliza could be the daughter of Daniel and Catherine. However, she was raised by George and Rachel Gerkey in Ashland Ohio. When she married Chauncy, Elijah Gerkey signed that they were both of legal age to marry. Elijah was the brother to Daniel and both were the sons of George and Rachel Gerkey.
