DANIEL R. HARP DIES ON MAY 2
After an illness of several years, D. R. Harp died at St. Francis Sanitarium in Monroe, Saturday afternoon, May 2, 1953. He had seemed to be better Saturday morning and had been so glad to see his son, Charles Dreher Harp, and daughter, Willie Belle Harp Rankin, of Houston, Texas who had been called home because of Mr. Harpls illness. He died later Saturday at 5 pm.

Bob Harp was born in Morehouse Parish near Bonita, Christmas Day, 1878. He was the son of:
Mr. & Mrs. DeMarquis Ellis Harp
Pioneers of Morehouse Parish. He attended the Bonita School and L. S. U.

On March 2, 1907, he married Miss Belle Dreher and reared a fine family of seven (7) children, all of whom are still living. They were devoted to their children and the home was full of love and harmony. Bob Harp lived in the old family home until it was destroyed by fire, and then built their present home on the same site where the magnificent oak trees still stand among later plantings that he added to the spacious lawn. Mr. Hap lived there all of his life and engaged in farming among the many friends who loved and respected him and enjoyed his companionship.

Mr. Harp was of a peaceful and contented nature, and during his long life he never engaged altercations or arguments with anyone and his friendly attitude made many friends for him who knew him for an honest, upright man. He was a devoted husband and a loving, indulgent father who lived his home and his family and his friends and found the full measure of happiness and contentment in his way of life. To this quiet unassuming man, life was good and he accepted things as they came, without fear or complaint.

Our community has lost a good man, but memory will keep him alive in the hearts and minds of all who knew home. His body was brought to the home Sunday afternoon where he rested until Monday morning when it was taken to the Bonita Methodist Church for the 10 am funeral. The church was banked with lovely floral offerings attesting to the love and esteem of countless friends. Interment was in the Harp Family Cemetery - now known as the Bonne Idee Cemetery.

Mr. Harp is survived by his wife:
Belle Dreher Harp
His children:
Willie Belle Harp Rankin (Mrs. Louie Rodney Rankin)
Anne Vivian Harp Evans (Mrs. Carnel Edward Evans) of Mer Rouge
Mary Louise Harp Hopkins (Mrs. I. L. Faye Hopkins)
