Truman Evan Theofield, 73, of Martinsburg died suddenly Saturday morning at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus, after cardiac arrest. He was born in Bethesda, Md., son of the late John Peter Sr. and Grace Alice (Poole) Theofield. He married Sherri Courtland Appleby Oct. 14, 1967, in North Forestville, Md. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Dawn Amber Theofield at home; a brother, John Peter Theofield Jr. and wife, Ruth, of Silver Spring, Md., a sister, Janet Grace Stevens and husband, Charles E., of Highland, Md.; eight nieces; one nephew; and his beloved companion and dog, "Gracie." He was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Theofield, and a brother, Robert Earl Theofield. Truman was a 1955 graduate of Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, Md. He served in the United States Army from 1955-57. He worked as a federal police officer in Washington, D.C., for 25 years. Upon his retirement 30 years ago to Martinsburg, Truman worked various jobs, the past 12 years at Cove Forge/White Deer Run, Williamsburg, as a driver. Truman enjoyed his family and various activities such as golfing, Altoona Curve baseball, the Washington Redskins, traveling and walking Gracie. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, with the Rev. Maryanna Keagle officiating. Interment with military honors performed by the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard will be held in Fairview Cemetery. Contributions in Truman's memory may be made to the Cove Relay for Life or the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society.
