WM. F. HANSON FORMER RESIDENT MUSICIAN DIES

A former Vernal resident and well-known musician, William Fredrick Hanson, 81, died June 22 at Provo after a long illness.

He was born October 23, 1887 in Vernal to Peter and Sarah Helen Glines Hanson. August 19, 1910. He married Afton Pack in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She preceded him in death, January 28, 1967.

Mr. Hanson was a professor of music, a music teacher and a composer of music. He had received a bachelor's and master's degree from Brigham Young University.

The Opera "Sun Dance" was written and produced by Mr. Hanson. The story of the Uintah Basin Indians, it was produced in many places in the west and also in New York. The opera received national acclaim.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Berg Mortuary in Provo.
