Ellen Jackson Miles was the second wife of Ples after Sallie Kate Sullivan, b. 12 Mar 1884. Sallie was the mother of Jewell, Madie, and Audrey. When Kate was sick knowing she would die, she told Ples to marry Ellen, her cousin since she was a widow having lost her husband and she was trying to raise her son, Robert Jackson. Kate said she wanted her girls to have a mother and Robert needed a father and since Mr. Jackson had died, Ellen was about to loose her farm. The marriage occurred and they lived together until Ples died in Luling following an accidental fire in the bathroom of their home in Lockhart.
