Madie was born Mary Virgie Miles. Because her name sounded too much like Mary Virgin, they changed her name to Madie. Her mother, Sally Kate Sullivan, died when she was 12. Her mother wanted the girls to have a mother, so she asked her father Ples to marry her cousin, Ellen New (FAG# 41341940), a widow herself. She had a step-brother, Robert Jackson, from this marriage.

Madie was a school teacher for several years and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. In earlier years, she always managed to have a hot meal for the family, as well as for visitors and occasional beggars at the back door. She befriended everyone she met and made everyone feel special. She was active in the First Lockhart Baptist Church for many years before moving to Canyon Lake and becoming a member of the Canyon Lake Baptist Church. She will be remembered lovingly by all of those whose lives she touched.
