After moving to Charlotte, he joined the Nazareth Primitive Baptist Church. He then later joined Shiloh Institutional Baptist Church where during his tenure, he served as a loyal and faithful member until his transition. He gave of himself unselfishly by being a devoted and supportive member. Deacon Sanders gave his time, talent and leadership ability to fulfill his Christian duty. During his many years of faithful service to Shiloh, he served as Sunday School Teacher, Chairman of the Deacon Board, Chairman of Proving and Disbursement Committee, Chairman of the Pastoral Search Committee and Leader of the Hymn Choir. He served previously as Sunday School Superintendent and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. As Hymn Choir Leader, he was responsible for many Out-of-State invitations extended to the Hymn Choir. He was a willing worker in maintaining the overall growth of the church.
Deacon Sanders was a renowned Master Hymn Choir Leader throughout the East Coast. He received his inspiration from the late Deacon Walter Mobley, who took him under his wings. If you didn't know Deacon Sanders by name, you would have known him by his gestures. He was notoriously known for holding his right ear and stomping his foot (if you get an opportunity, go take a peek at where he sat on the choir stand and you may be able to see where he wore a hole in the carpet). His favorite songs were: A Few More Years Shall Roll..., Run, Mary, Run, Lord, You Sho' Been Good to Me, The Half Ain't Never Been Told, Tell Me What Are They Doing Up there In Heaven Today, I'm Bound For Mt. Zion, I Feel Good, Until I Die, Go Down Gabriel and Hammer Rain.
Talton Sanders, Jr., was married to the late Marjorie Williams Sanders; from this union was born five sons and one daughter. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Nathaniel Sanders, James Sanders, Sr., Thomas Sanders, Sr., and two sisters, Edna Ruth Sanders Myatt and Olga Lee Sanders.
