Born in Wyckoff, New Jersey, Harm was fifth of ten children born to Hermanus "Monas" Hazen and his wife, Aaltje "Ella" Hagedoorn Hazen. He lived in Ridgewood before making his home in Midland Park. He established the Midland Park Coal & Lumber Co. on Lake Avenue (now Kuiken's Lumber) in the 1920s. Later, he was employed by the Hohokus Bleachery. He retired in 1952 and moved to Florida.

He passed away in Pinellas Park, Florida on December 5, 1960 at the age of 75. He was survived by his wonderful third wife, Mrs. Minerva Manee Hazen, who is buried with him; three daughters, Helen (Jacob) Junta, Sr. of Midland Park, New Jersey, and Charlotte (John) Jeffer and Dorothy (Wallace) Messenger, both of St. Petersburg, Florida; four sons, Herbert of Midland Park, New Jersey, Edward (Maxine) and Harold (Mary) of Washington Twp, New Jersey, and Henry of Pinellas Park, Florida; one step-son, Marcy Manee of Pinellas Park, Florida; three brothers, Herman, Garry and James Hazen, all of Midland Park, New Jersey; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Charlotte Mulder Hazen in 1927, mother of his three daughters and four sons.

The funeral service was held at Osgood Funeral Home, Pinellas Park; Burial in Memorial Cemetery, St. Petersburg.
