Funeral: 1 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Godley with the Rev. Ken Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Point Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Crosier-Pearson-Cleburne Funeral Home.
Alex was born to the late Alex and Mable Shaw on Aug. 24, 1917, in Lillian. At age 5, his family moved to Forest Hill. He graduated from Poly High and attended NTAC in Arlington for three years. Gene went on to Georgia Tech where he played football and baseball. He was an All American in the football season of 1940. He received his degree in aeronautical engineering. He met and married his first wife of 41 years, Helen Braswell, in Georgia. Gene worked as a mechanical engineer with Sinclair & Arco Oil Refinery for 31 years in Houston. After Helen's death, he later married Katie Shaw in 1983.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; and twin brothers, Harrell and Carroll Shaw.
Survivors: His wife of 25 years, Katie Shaw; sons, Eugene Shaw, Dr. Robert Shaw and Steve Shaw; four granddaughters; three grandsons; eight great-grandchildren; stepsons, Dan and Jim Shaw; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
