James J. Rowan LONACONING - James Joseph Rowan, 82, of Lonaconing, formerly of Cumberland, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at Egle Nursing and Rehab Cener, Lonaconing.

Born Jan. 1, 1923, in Mount Savage, he was the son of the late Winifred J. Rowanand Nina (Sluss) Rowan. In addition to his parents, his wife, Anna Lee (Robertson) Rowan, preceded him in death on Aug. 6, 1998. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Winifred Rowan and William Rowan; five sisters, Edith Emerick, Evelyn Bradburn, LaVerne Kirkwood, Betty Spataro and Rose Marie Grove.

Jim retired from Mead-Westvaco in 1987 after 45 years of service as a paper inspector in Quality Control. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II.

He was a member of St. Mary's of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Lonaconing, a former member of the Goodwill Volunteer Fire Company in Lonaconing and the Lonaconing Republican Club.

He is survived by one daughter, Katherine Ann James and husband Steve, Westernport; one sister, Dorothy Lashbaugh, Lonaconing; one grandson, Patrick James and Gretchen of Satellite Beach, Fla.; great-granddaughters, Kelsey James and Molly James of Bealeton Va.; and great-grandson, Nathaniel James of Satellite Beach.

Friends will be received at St. Mary's of the Annunciation Catholic Church, Lonaconing, Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's of the Annunciation Catholic Church, Lonaconing, Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at 1 p.m. following the visitation.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's of the Annunciation Catholic Church, St. Mary's Terrace, SW, Lonaconing, MD 21539 or to the Egle Nursing Home and Rehab Center, 57 Jackson St., Lonaconing MD 21539.

The Shaffer-Warnick Funeral Home, Romney, is in charge of arrangements.
