James E. Potter, age 74, of Maryville, passed away, Thursday, August 27, 2009 at Colonial Hills Transitional Care Center. He was the owner of James E. Potter Trucking for over 38 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Grace Potter; brother, Walter Lee Potter; sister, Ovetta Potter Beckner and sister, Peggy Potter Bowers. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Anna Jo Potter; step children, Junius Crosthwaite and husband, Larry of Lexington, Kentucky and Rick Kirby of Maryville; grandchildren, Jennifer Huffstetler and husband, Todd, Matt Dover and wife, Laura, and Ryan Kirby and wife, Bianca; great grandchildren, Sydnie, Morgan and Levi Huffstetler and Josh Dover; brothers, J.R. Potter and wife, Brenda, Mayford and wife, Betty both of Maryville, and special dog, Susie. Family and friends will meet 1:30 p.m. Sunday, August 30, 2009 at New Providence Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery for the graveside service and interment, Rev. R.M. Everett officiating. The family will receive friends 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville (865) 982-6041, www.millerfuneralhome.org.
