OBITUARY- JOHN BAUMAN. It was true, as was announced in last weeks issue, that the life of that aged and respected citizen, John Bauman, was near en end. He passed away before our last issue had gained circulation. John Christian Bauman was born in Bavaria, Germany, April 28th, 1830, and died in Clarence, Cedar County, IA., August 5, 1897, aged 67 years, 8 months and 7 days. He came to this country in 1854 and was later married to Miss Margaret Blank at Aurora, IL. He was converted a few years after and united with the German M. E. church of that place and then with the German Lutheran church here. He came to Cedar County in 1869 and farmed until 1890, when he removed to Clarence, where he resided until his death, He leaves a wife and seven children to mourn his departure, one son having preceded him to the better land just four weeks ago. The funeral was held at the residence on Saturday, being conducted by Rev. Herman, assisted by Rev A. M. McIntosh, and the remains were laide to rest in the Clarence Cemetery. For a week past he had been very low, and his death was hardly unexpected by his relatives and near friends. In the death of Mr. Bauman this community loses a good man, and one profoundly respeced by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
