The deceased leaves his wife, two sons, five daughters, and twenty grandchildren to mourn the loss of one whose place can never be filled. Two of his daughters preceded him in the Land Beyond. A good and faithful father and husband, a true friend, a good neighbor and an upright and loyal citizen has gone and is sorely missed.
Martin Johnson was born in Ness, upper Romerike, Norway, April 13, 1859 at which place he grew to manhood and was married, Feb 15, 1880 and immigrated to the United States the same year and made his home near Racine, Wisconsin for about nine years, later moving to Ostrander, Minn, where he lived for about twelve years and then moved to this place, where by hard work and perserverance he hewed a farm and home out of the wilderness and was looking forward to passing his old age in peace and security at the home he had struggled so hard to acquire. But it was not to be. A growth on his forhead had gradually formed and begun to bother him. In February last he went to a St. Paul hospital for treatment and although the doctors promised a cure, after several operations and awful suffering he was given up and gradually lost strength until finally his suffering was relieved by death.
