Death Summons Mrs. Maud Clark
Funeral services for Mrs. Maud Gray Clark, 73, wife of Whit H. Clark, were held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock from the Congregational church with the Rev. Ellen Bradley officiating.
Mrs. Clark died Saturday morning at her home on Ferry street after a long illness. She was born
in Cedar county, Iowa, August 19, 1874, and had resided in this community since 1909.
Mrs. Clark’s passing will be keenly felt by the people of this community. Her thoughtfulness of others, and her kind and gracious manner, endeared her to all who knew her. She enjoyed a wide circle of friends, who frequently accepted her warm hospitality. Although she had been in ill health for a number of years, she remained cheerful and hopeful until the last.
Mrs. Clark was a member of the Congregational church and had acted in the capacity of Primary Sunday School superintendent for the past 35 years. Her life was one of Christian service and culture, and she faithfully lived up to these ideals.
She was one of the charter members of the Research club, a member of the Arboretum Foundation of Seattle, the American Rock Garden Society, and the Early American Glass club of Everett. She was instrumental, with others, in founding the local library, and served for many years as chairman of the board. Also, a member of the local park board, she worked diligently and untiringly in her more active years, to make Monroe a beautiful place in which to live, and the fruits of her efforts are to be seen in the attractive parking strips, whose shrubbery and trees, in spring, flower forth with dazzlingly beauty.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Clark is survived by two brothers, Eugene and Robert Gray, both of whom reside in Iowa.
At the request of Mrs. Clark, flowers were omitted at the funeral. The money will be used by friends for a worthwhile memorial.
Cremation followed at View Crest Abbey, Everett, under the direction of Purdy & Kerr.
