Note: The following was provided by R. McGraw (49911068) in March 2019:
John Greenlaw Smith was married to Julia Ann Smith Spinks. She is my third great grandmother. She shows up in the 1850 census already married to William Spinks, but I have long suspected that she was the daughter of Sely Smith in the same census, but no proof.

There is a lot of endogamy in this family. Her sister( I think) Elizabeth Smith in the same census, is my second great grandmother, having married Solomon McGraw. Elizabeth then had my great-grandfather who married a Spinks, grand-daughter of Julia Ann, and birthed my grandfather. That Spinks grand-daughter died, and he married her sister. Also two of his brothers married two more of her sisters.

I have never come up with a father for the Smiths, nor have I figured out where in Alabama they came from. but you can see that I have several lines that involve this Smith Family.

Also Solomon McGraw ( My 2G Grandfather) was from Edgefield South Carolina I think, but he and Elizabeth are both brick walls for me.
