Alfred (Al) Fero, colorful and beloved figure, died Monday evening at Memorial Hospital after an illness of but a few days. He was past 91 years of age, having celebrated his last milestone February 10 of this year. Mr. Fero was born Feb. 10, 1862 at Rippon, Wisconsin, the son of David Fero and Harriet Brewster. At the age of 20 he was united in marriage with Miss Minnie Vine at Rippon. To this union 11 children were bon, eight of whom survive. They are Lillian Marshall of Santa Monica, Calif., Mrs. Leta Hodson of Burbank, Calif., Mrs. Bessie Walker of Santa Monica, Calif., Mrs. Inez Kenitz of Montello, Wis., Mrs. Harriet Caldwell of Inglewood, Calif., Mrs. Maxine Hoon of Santa Maria, Calif., Jack of Inglewood and Frank of Douglas. Other survivors include 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Following his marriage, he followed the hippodrome circuit for a number of years doing all kinds of trick riding and chariot racing. He toured the country with Pawnee Bill's wild west show and played the World's Fair in 1892. Recalling this event, Mr. Fero said that Buffalo Bill Cody and his troupe were also playing at the Chicago fair. Two of Mr. Fero's daughters became trick riders and appeared with him throughout the country. Mr. Fero had been west through this area many times but it was not until 1915 that he decided to settle in central Wyoming taking up a homestead near Shawnee. With the exception of a few periods of residence on the west coast, he has made his home here ever since. Two years ago Mrs. Fero passed away after 69 years of married life. (Information was obtained from his obituary and cemetery records.)
