Elizabeth Constable: ad writer, artist

Elizabeth Constable of Peekskill, and artist and advertising writer, died Saturday of cancer at St. Agnes Hospital in White Plains. She was 56.

Mrs. Constable was born April 10, 1937, to Joseph and Elizabeth Tyler Gibson of Philadelphia. She graduated from Swarthmore (Pa.) High School.

She married David Constable of London on April 24, 1971, in Swarthmore.

The couple lived in Manhattan and Larchmont before moving to Peekskill in 1979.

She Studied art at the Phildelphia Museum Art School and at L'Academic des Beaux Arts in Paris. She returned to the United States, where she became a writer and worked in advertising in New York City.

She was employed be a number of advertising firms in the 1960s and 1970s including J. Walter Thompson and N.W. Ayer, both in New York City. She wrote television commercials and created advertising copy for The New Yorker magazine, Revlon and De Beers accounts.

She was a longtime environmentalist who enjoyed painting with water colors and writing stories, said her husband. She was also very involved with St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Peekskill, where she worked as a teacher.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a brother, Joseph Gibson of Denver; a sister, Frances Bayard of Wilmington, Del.; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are making donation in her memory to the capital fund at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 137 N, Division St., Peekskill. N.Y. 10566.

Arrangements are being handled by the Edward F. Carter Funeral Home in Montrose.
