~~SOLETA ELIZABETH "LETIE" BEAN~~

Soleta Walling was born to Charlie and California "Callie" Ferrell
Walling in 1882. She was raised in Grapeland, Houston County, Texas.
Her grandparents were A. Elisha and Amanda Williams Walling, A. Elisha came to Houston County Texas with his parents Joseph and Catherine "Katie" Anderson Walling in 1838. The Walling's migrated to Texas from Sparta, White County, Tennessee. He joined the Santa Fe Expedition going into New Mexico with his Company to get New Mexico to side with Texas against Mexico in the "War of Texas" fighting for Texas independance from Mexico. New Mexico backed out and turned the troops over to Mexico. They were marched to and imprisioned in Vera Cruz.
Some were held for over a year. In 1843 they were released and he walked all the way back to Houston
County, Texas. He married and started a family after his return. He later, as an older man took his wife and younger children to Stephenville, Erath County, Texas. He died there, and for a while the "Daughters of the Republic of Texas' were trying to find his grave to place a historical marker. They did not locate it. His wife Amanda went to live with a daughter in Terrell, Texas and died there. She was buried there, unknown cemetery.
Also "Letie's" other grandparents were James Ancel Ferrell and his wife, Soleta Revels Ferrell.. There came from Georgia but later moved to Jasper, Texas (where he was killed in 1883, while in a conflict with a son-in-law J.E. Bean married to his daughter Eunice Ferrell Bean. Eunice being the daughter of his first wife Elizabeth Braswell Ferrell). It was ruled an accidental death.
**Soleta Revels Ferrell was already dead at this time, having died in childbirth in 1866.**
He was married to his third wife Mary Jane Gandy Ferrell, and living with her when he died.
Ancel Ferrell had a total of 21 children by 3 wives.

Ilai and Letie were married on 9 Feb 1899.
"Letie" and Ilai lived on the Old Rock Hill Road where they raised their family.
My grandfather was her brother John Randolph Walling.
We called her "Aunt Lete".

Funeral services for Mrs. Letia Bean, 98 of Route 1, Grapeland will be at 3 p.m. today in the First Baptist Church of Grapeland, the Rev. Kenneth Mobley and the Rev. Leslie C. Welch officiating. Burial will be in the Parker
Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hassell and Foster
Funeral Home in Grapeland prior to services.
Mrs. Bean died Friday in Grapeland Community Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Bean was born Jan 24, 1882, in Grapeland the daughter of Charlie Walling and Callie Ferrell Walling. She was a life-long Grapeland resident except for eight years in Stephenville. she was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. (Arthur) Cealy Beatrice Bean Willis Steadman of Grapeland, Mrs. Evelyn Pritchett of Houston, Mrs (Joe) Melba Musick of Athens, Mrs. (Travis) Theora Elizabeth Bean Brown of Grapeland; 19 grand-children; 37 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John Ilia Bean, and four sons, Elbert Bean, Ivy Bean, Cecil Spurgine Bean, and Otho C. Bean.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers,
