JACKSONVILLE NC - McKinley "Mac" Hilderbrand, 74, of Jacksonville, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, in Edinburgh, Ind. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, 9 a.m. at Centerview Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Schwalm officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. Mac retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after 30 years of service as a sergeant major. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served two embassy tours in Nigeria and Bulgaria. His parents, John and Pearl Hilderbrand; and brother, Horace Hilderbrand precedes him in death. Survivors include his daughter, Beth Chesser and her husband, Keith of Edinburgh, Ind.; sister, Aliene N. Spears of Edgefield, S.C.; brother, Robert F. Hilderbrand and his wife, Linda of Springfield, Fla.; sister, Lily H. Watson and her husband, Charles of Edgefield, S.C., and sister, Mary H. Bussey of Modoc, S.C.; and his fiancé, Josie Horrobin of Jacksonville. The family suggests that donations be made to the American Legion, Hezzie Griffis Post, Edgefield, S.C. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6 until 8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
