Born in Georgetown, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Billy Cothran and Magnolia Bray Cothran.
She was a devoted Christian and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Greer.
Mrs. Gambrell was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her adoring family.
Preceding her in death was her husband, James Ashmore Gambrell Sr.; a grandson, Todd McCarter; and a sister, Irene Chandler.
Surviving are a son, James Gambrell Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Taylors, S.C.; a daughter, Gayle McCarter and her husband, Norman, of Greenville, S.C.; a brother, W.E. "Erby" Shaw and his wife, Mittie, of Greenville, S.C.; and a special family member, Ellen Chandler of Taylors, S.C. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Jennifer Ruh and her husband, Christopher, Katie Gambrell, Scott McCarter, and Ivey Hock and her husband, Rene; and four great-grandchildren, Parker Ruh, Jackson Ruh, Rivers Hock and Remington Hock.
A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at 10 a.m. at White Oak Baptist Church, 1805 Wade Hampton Blvd., Greenville. Dr. Frank E. Page will officiate.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the home of Gayle McCarter, 711 Pelham Road., Greenville.
