The Rev. Gary Childress, 70, of Hopkinsville, died Friday, July 25, 2008, at 10:20 a.m. at his home, following a short illness.

A Baptist minister for over 35 years, an Air Force veteran and member of Living Hope Baptist Church in Hopkinsville, he was born Sept. 30, 1937, in Caldwell County, a son of the late Carlyn and Verna Thomas Childress.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Patsy Anderson Childress; two sons, Chris Childress of Trenton and Micky Childress of Paducah; three daughters, Pamela Dunbar and Penny Childress, both of Princeton and Melissa Hudson of Hopkinsville; sev­en grandchildren, Derek, Drew and Garrett Childress, Nichelle and Kara Dunbar, Whitni and Charity Boitnott; two great-grandchildren, Derrin Boyd and Aliya Townes; two sisters, Glenda Osborne of Princeton and Sue Son of Hanson; and several nieces and nephews.

Private graveside services were conducted at Eddy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
