Born on October 21, 1918 in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Prestash) Pich. Helen was the wife of the late Charles P. Boukus.
Helen grew up in New Britain and graduated in 1938 from New Britain High School. She met and married the love of her life Charles and together they raised a family. A dedicated and hard working employee, she worked as an assembler and an inspector for The Stanley Works until her retirement in 1980. Through her work, she was a member of the Stanley Club along with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
After retirement, she moved to Virginia to spend time with family there and eventually moved back to Connecticut to be closer to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family was the center of her life and she enjoyed making quilts for them and baking her famous apple pies.
She loved to travel with her family and Ocean City was a frequent destination. Her faith was also a part of her life as a former member of Holy Cross Church and a member of Our Lady of Mercy Church. Above all else, she loved her family and will be truly missed by all those who knew her.
She leaves her sons, Attorney Charles P. Boukus, Jr. and his wife Rosemary of Arlington, VA, Gary M. Boukus and his wife Betty of Plainville; six grandchildren, Joseph Boukus of Arlington, VA; Gary Boukus of Plainville, Helen Boukus Santini of Plainville, Katharine Boukus of Winchester, VA, Nora Boukus of Boston, MA, and Ellyn Boukus of Arlington, VA; three great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Jennie Pich of New Britain; a special nephew, Michael Pich of New Britain. She was predeceased by her sisters, Mildred Gaskowich and Sylvia Pich, and her brother, Joseph Pich.
Funeral Services will be celebrated on Friday, August 21, 2009 at 8:30 a.m. from Bailey Funeral Home 48 Broad Street, Plainville, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Plainville.
Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.
Family and friends may gather on Friday for an hour before the services from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Funeral Home.
