Thomas Stockton, Sr., c.1714 - 1783

Thomas Stockton, Sr., was a son of Davis Stockton. Thomas was born about 1714, probably in England. Thomas married Rachel Allen, a daughter of Samuel and Martha (nee Chapman) Allen.

Thomas' father, Davis Stockton, was a member of the Orthodox Reformed Presbyterian Church. Thomas' wife, Rachel, and her parents were Quakers. Thomas, Rachel, and their family are shown on several Quaker records.

Thomas owned property on Yellow Mountain Creek (a branch of Stockton's Creek), Virgin Spring Creek (now known as Dollins Creek), and Pounding Creek, and Mechum's River. These are all near the town of Batesville. Although Thomas Stockton owned property near Stockton's Creek and Stockton's Mill Creek, it does not appear that he owned any property on them.

Thomas and Rachel (nee Allen) Stockton Sr. owned a plantation on Mechum's River. When Thomas died he left his plantation to his wife Rachel and his son Jesse, who married Mary Hays.

Thomas Stockton, Sr.

31 July 1782 will:

"I do give and bequeth unto my Son Jessee, all my lands and plantation whereon I now live, also I do give unto my wife Rachel, the Third of my Lands, during her life and Widowhood, and after her death my will is that my son Jessee Shall have the hole of my Lands."

Thomas Stockton, Sr., died in Albemarle County, Virginia. His will is dated July 31, 1782, and it was recorded on April 11, 1783.
