TWO MEN DIE AS INTERURBAN SMASHES CAR AGAINST POLE

Toll for Milwaukee's triple holiday last night was four dead and scores injured as traffic in the annual Labor day pilgrimage to outlying resorts and cities was at its height. The dead are :

Steve Brem, 40, of 575 Sixty-fourth avenue.
Marko Turkovich, 52, of 635 Sixtieth avenue.
.....
.....

The seriously injured are Frank Shtoz, 42, of 5841 National avenue; Martin Messer, 40, of 896 Forty-eighth avenue; Mrs. Steve Brem, 39, and Helen Brem, 14, both of 575 Sixty-fourth avenue.

Hurled Against Pole

After speeding to beat a north-bound interurban train on the Burlington-Milwaukee line to the crossing, an automobile driven by Steve Brem was struck and hurled against a telephone pole at Beloit corners, one and one-half mile west of West Allis on the Beloit road. The call for an ambulance was received by the West Allis police at 10:45 a. m.

Brem died shortly after entrance at the County hospital. Marko Turkovich, who rode in the front seat with Brem, was dead before medical aid could be given. Both suffered skull fractures.

Turkovich came to this country about a year ago. His widow and two children are living in Austria.

Other occupants of the car also were taken to the County hospital where their condition is reported as critical.

On Way to Picnic

Mrs. Brem, wife of the driver, was cut and bruised; Helen Brem, a daughter was cut by falling glass; Frank Shtoz received bruises and possible internal injuries; and Martin Messer suffered deep lacerations.

The party was on its way to a picnic at Wind lake and the collison occurred after Brem had driven passed two other automobiles, already stopped to allow the train to pass.

Spectators, including Mrs. Edward Reamer, who was waiting to board the interurban, said that the motorman signaled for the crossing and had started to slacken the speed of the train. The two car train came to a halt on the center of the highway.

The party consisted of two cars, a second following about a block behind. Occupants of this car were Joe Kezman, 635 Sixtieth avenue, Brem's son-in-law, his wife, Kate, and Elizabeth Brem, 10 years old.

Information of her father's death is being withheld from Mrs. Kezman, who is ill. She was not allowed to approach the scene and was told that her parents were only slightly injured.
