Charlotte Adleman, 97, of Spring Hill, Fla., died July 22, 2009.
Charlotte has resided at The Residence at Timber Pines since June 2006. Charlotte also lived in the retirement community of High Point in Brooksville, Fla., since 1975, when she and her late husband, Harry, moved there from Eau Claire. Before moving to Eau Claire in 1964, they lived in South Beloit, Ill.
Charlotte was born Dec. 17, 1911, in Freeport, Ill., the daughter of Ray and Gertrude Truesdill. As a young woman, Charlotte worked at the Beloit Daily News. Later, Charlotte was a bookkeeper for her husband's heating and cooling business in South Beloit until 1964. At that time they purchased One Hour Martinizing Dry Cleaners in Eau Claire and later went on to build two more dry cleaning plants in Eau Claire.
Charlotte and Harry were married July 2, 1932, in Beloit. The two embarked on an affectionate and constructive partnership that lasted 70 years, until Harry's death in 2003. They worked and played hard together. They started by building their very first home with their own hands and went on to further their talents by building seven more homes. They left northern Illinois to winter in Florida for many years before moving to Florida permanently.
Charlotte was an avid golfer in her time. She also loved playing cards, bingo and listening to gospel music with her friends at The Residence at Timber Pines. She enjoyed many other activities with her family and friends.
Charlotte's greatest happiness came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and longtime friends of the family. Her life's philosophy, passed on to all, was, "Approach everything with a positive attitude."
Three sons survive Charlotte: Lyle (Ann) of Brooksville, Fla., Leslie (Mary Lynn) of South Beloit, Ill., and Terry (Julie) of Weeki Wachee, Fla.; one daughter, Cherl Short of Spring Hill, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at McCorkle Funeral Home, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd., Rockton, IL. For more information, call 800-213-7070.
