Sammy Gillooly, 81, died at 4:55 pm Tuesday, April 25, 2000 at St. Joseph Hospital in Murphysboro.

Services wil be at St. Andrews Catholic church with burial at St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery.

Mr. Gillooly was a retired Letter Carrier with the Murphysboro Post Office, where he had worked for 31 years.

He was a member of the St. Andrew Church of Murphysboro, American Legion Post 127, The elks Lodge in Murphusboro and the National Association of Letter Carriers.

He was a World War II Navy veteran.

He was born on April 22, 1919, in Murphysboro to Vince and Mary E. (Layne) Gillooly. He married Candace Snyder on March 12, 1939, in Benton, MO and she survives of Murphysboro.

Other survivors include two sons and daughters in law, Tom and Joyce Gillooly of Pittsburgh, Penn, and Jerry and Carol Gillooly of Lambertville, Mich,; two dauters and sons in law, Patty and John Reising of Dayton, Ohio, and Jeannie and Larry Huffman of Murphysboro; eight grandchildren, Bryan Kelley of Texas, J.V. Gillooly of California, Jack Reising of Washington, Brad Kelley of Illinois, Jill Weekley of Ohio, Nora Gillooly of PenN, Kathy Fleming of SC and Beth Lott of Penn.; 10 great grandchildren; and one sister and brother in law Edyth and Brooks Sloan of St. Louis, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Bob, Jim, Thomas Henry and Pat Gillooly and one sister, Mary Gillooly.
