James Gillooly dies; was with USDA, church delegate


Mr.Gillooly, 71, 1105 N. 16th St.,Murphysboro, died Wednesday, July 18, 1984 at St. Joseph Hospital in Murphysboro after a brief illness. The funeral will be at 10 am Saturday at the First Lutheran Church in Murphysboro. Burial will be in DeSoto Cemetery.

He was a civil engineer and consultant for the Soil and Conservation Department of USDA.

He Was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Murphysboro where he served on the Church Council, chairman of the Social Ministry Committee, Chairman of the Constitution Committee, frequent delegate to the Illinois Senate Convention of the Lutheran Church Association, and served as an advisor to Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Center in Oregon. He was also a member of the Soil Conservation Society Association and the National Association of Retired Employees.

He was born Dec 11, 1912, in Murphysboro to Vincent Samuel and Mary Elizabeth Layne Gillooly. He married Anna Mae Austin on Dec 23, 1939, in Cape Girardeau, MO.

Survivors include his wife of Murphysboro; two sisters, Mary Gillooly of Murphysboro, Edythe Sloan of Hazelwood, MO; two brothers, Sammy Gillooly of Murphysboro and Pat Gillooly of Minneapolis, Minn.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.
