Mr. Milton Wesley "Punch" Beard, 84, of Westminster, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006 at Carroll Hospital Center, Westminster, after an extended illness. Born March 12, 1921 in Woodsboro, he was the son of the late Vernon and Mertie Smith Beard. he was the husband of Elizabeth Knott Beard, his wife of 59 years.During World War II Mr. Beard served in the U. S. Army in the 674th Medical Company in Europe as an ambulance driver. He was formerly employed with the Cambridge Rubber Co., Taneytown, for 33 years and with N. Z. Cramer, Woodsboro, for 10 years, before retiring in 1986. he was a member of Grace Rocky hill Lutheran Church, near Woodsboro, and had attended St. Joseph Catholic Church, Taneytown. He was a 42 year member of the Gleen W. Eyler Post American Legion, Woodsboro. he enjoyed hunting and fishing.surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter and son in law, Shirley and Larry Pittinger of Union Bridge; two grandsons, David W. Pittinger and fiancee Becky of Hanover, Pa., Michael A. Pittinger and fiancee Sue of Walkersville; and one brother, Wilford O. Beard of Chambersburg, Pa. he was preceded in death by sisters, Annabelle Beard and Armatha Stambaugh; and brothers, Luther and Austin Beard.A private interment service will be held in Rocky hill cemetery, near Woodsboro. The Rev. Richard P. Rutkauskas Jr., his pastor, will officiate. There will be no public visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, MD 21787. Arrangements are by Hartzler Funeral Home, Union Bridge.
