Elizabeth PIPHER was the seventh of nine children born to Samuel and Barbara (LA BAR) Pipher. She married John Anthony KNISLEY circa 1821 in Pennsylvania. Of the Mennonite faith, they emigrated almost immediately thereafter to Canada, settling in with other Mennonites in Markham Twp., York Co., Province of Ontario. Their twelve children were:
1. Mary Sarah Knisley was born 1822 in Ontario, married Jonas MILLER and died 25 May, 1875 at Markham. They had twelve children.
2. Samuel Knisley was born 1824 at Markham, married Ann Marie GRIMES and died before 1880 in Sanilac Co., MI. They had four children, of which three are known to have been born in Markham.
3. Abraham Knisley was born circa 1826 in Ontario, married Rachel SMITH and died 1917 at Durham, Ontario. They had thirteen children.
4. Christol Knisley was born 6 December, 1827 at Whitechurch Twp., York Co., Ontario, married Mary Ann CHAPMAN, 4 April, 1869 at Uxbridge, York Co., Ontario and died 9 June, 1917 at Wales Twp., St. Clair Co., MI. They had nine children.
5. John Anthony Knisley, Jr. was born in 1831 at Markham, married Esther TROUP circa 1855 at Elkhart Co., IN and died December, 1915 at Elkhart. They had nine children.
6. George Knisley was born 4 April, 1832 at Markham, married Christina SITTER 1 April, 1854 at Rainham Twp., Haldimand Co., Ontario and died 16 March, 1898 at Greenwood Twp., St. Clair Co., MI. They had thirteen children.
7. Joseph Knisley was born 30 October, 1833 at Markham and died 1 March, 1842 at Markham. Buried with his parents in Wideman Cemetery.
8. Peter Knisley was born in 1837 at Markham, married 1. Barbara Sitter (sister of the Christina Sitter who married George Knisley). They had three children before her death circa 1862. Peter then married 2. Magdalena YAKE in 1864. They had nine children.
9. Daniel Knisley was born circa 1841 in Canada and died 2 April, 1909 at Markham. Never married. Buried in Wideman Cemetery.
10. David Henry Knisley was born 1 December, 1842 at Markham, married Rebecca WILSON 16 May, 1864 at the 1st Baptist Church of East Gwillumbury, East Gwillimbury, York Co., Ontario and 11 December, 1914 at Stayner, Ontario. They had seven children.
11. Anthony Knisley was born circa 1844 at York Co., Ontario, married Elizabeth GOULD 24 January, 1869 at Whitechurch, York Co., Ontario and died in 1879 at Simcoe Co., Ontario. They had three children.
12. Barbara Knisley, born in 1847 at Markham, married Warner WILSMITH 4 March, 1867 at Simcoe Co., Ontario. I have no further information.
NOTE: A single headstone was inscribed for three people, with Elizabeth's being located at the bottom. At some point, the stone must have broken away from its base. Although her name clearly remains, her inscription has been lost.
