VAUGHAN, Avis Marshall, 91, of Galax, died Monday May 6, 1996, at the Twin County Regional Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, J. Wayne Vaughan, who in partnership with Gilman Guynn purchased what is now known as Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home, where he was the manager until his death in 1955.

Mrs. Vaughan was a stockholder and Corporate Secretary/Treasurer of Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home, Vaughan-Guynn McGrady Chapel, Inc., Hillsville, and
Guynn Realty Corporation for the past several years. She was a faithful, loyal member of the First United Methodist Church, Galax. Her love of the Blue Ridge Parkway led her to travel many miles to notarize deeds for land for the Parkway. She continued to travel the Parkway whenever possible and even traveled there on Sunday, May 5, 1996, enjoying lunch at The Bluffs. A charter member of the Galax Business and Professional Women's Club formed in 1936, she was honored on February 25, 1996 for all her contributions to the chapter and her efforts in organizing Galax's first public library.

She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Estel and Betty Marshall, Galax; sisters and brother-in-law, Glenice and Serle Puckett, Ararat, Lida Marshall, Hillsville, and Idell McElrath, Raleigh, N.C. Also several nieces and nephews survive. Funeral service
