Hazel Marie was the first daughter of John Albert and Lena Shahan. She grew up in Steptoe, WA in a family of eight brothers and sisters: Lloyd Kelso(Daw), Leslie Ray (Pete), Dale Raymond, Gerald J. (Johnny), Dorothy Mae (Doffy), Mildred Lucille (Toots) and Howard William (Jack). Her family farmed in Steptoe where the Shahan heritage is still in the area. She has one son, Dell Jayne Russell born June 16, 1927.
