Bloomington, Idaho - Joyce Haddock Madsen passed away peacefully January 23, 2013, in Montpelier, Idaho of natural causes.
Joyce was born January 12, 1927 in Bloomington, Idaho to J. Bryan and Lorna Margaret Haddock Madsen, the second of four children. She attended grade school in Bloomington and Fielding High School in Paris.
She married her childhood sweetheart, Vance Madsen on August 30, 1944 in the Salt Lake City LDS temple. Born to this union was Dennis Vance (1945), Edward Lynn (1948), David Haddock (1953, John Bryan (1955), and Marilee (1958). Vance and Joyce made their first home in Bloomington. In 1953 they moved to Pocatello for Vance's employment on the railroad. While in Pocatello, Joyce began working at JC Penney's to support missionaries and 20 years later decided it was time to retire.
Joyce was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in all the auxiliaries but mainly in Relief Society. After retiremant, Vance and Joyce served in the Peoria, Ill. mission, specifically,Nauvoo, for 14 months. This experience was the highlight of their lives.
Joyce loved growing flowers. Their home in Pocatello twice won the "Holden Arrow" award for a beautiful yard. She loved the summers (but not the winters) in Bloomington. When they decided to move back to Bloomington, Vance promised her a large flower garden and raspberry patch. She loved them both.
Joyce had a great love of decorating and took great pride in this. She was an incredibly hard worker and had a very kind heart. Always putting others first and keeping confidences was of the upmost importance.
Joyce loved to travel, enjoyed studying genealogy and especially enjoyed studying Church history. She had a great appreciation for the hardships and trials of early saints and benefits they have brought to her life.
For the past few years she has been homebound which was her biggest challenge. Vance, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were Joyce's greatest loves and joys.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Dennis, son John and sister Marie. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Vance; children Edward (JoAnn) Madsen of Orem, Utah, David (Paula) Madsen of Bloomington, daughter, Marilee (Gregg) Park of Pocatello. Twenty-three grandchildren and 39 and still counting great-grandchildren. She also survived by her brother Reed Haddock of Bloomington and sister Renee Bird of Montpelier.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 28, 2013 at the Paris Stake Center. Interment was in the Bloomington Cemetery. Services under the direction of Matthews Mortuary.
