Asa was a son of James H. and Obedience Huggins. He first married Elizabeth Woody, daughter of John and Isabella (Dial) Woody Sr., on March 1825 in Laurens County, South Carolina. By 1830 Asa had brought the family to Coweta County, Georgia where he purchased land to farm. In 1860 he owned 14 slaves valued at $8400. Value of all property $16,490. From 1855-1863, Asa was an Inferior Court Judge in Coweta County, Georgia. Asa was also a Deacon in New Hope Baptist Church in Coweta County. He and Elizabeth had 13 children. After Elizabeth died in Feb 1873 he married her sister Nancy in June of 1873. He and Nancy had no children.
