The 1920 census suggests the district of "Isabella Furnace, Shenandoah Co., VA" as the likely location of the birth of Susannah Painter since her father, Abraham Painter is enumerated at this place in that year. Subsequent changes in county boundaries now place the suspected location of Isabella Furnace in what is now the county of Page. The use of "Page County" (above) as the birth place for Susannah is to keep consistency with Find-A-Grave in using current geographic names for the actual location rather than historic names. Unfortunately "Isabella Furnace" is not an option for a location in either Page or Shenandoah counties in Find-A-Grave.

Susannah's father, Abraham, adopted the name "Banter" around 1840 as being his proper German name rather than the Americanized "Painter" which the family had used for several generations. He, unfortunately, erred and should have spelled it "Bender" but that is "water-over-the-dam" now.
