Juanita Gibson, the daughter of Doyan and Kathryn (Nichols) Gibson, was born July 1, 1916, on a farm in Sac County, Iowa. On January 27, 1940, Juanita was united in marriage to Edwin Henry Baedke in Pomeroy. Juanita taught in schools at Jolley and Pomeroy. In 1961, the couple moved to Fort Dodge and Juanita taught in the Fort Dodge Community School District until her retirement in 1980. Her husband preceded her in death in May, 1980. Juanita was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, taught in the confirmation classes and was a long time Sunday school superintendent. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and president of the Women's Auxiliary, the Fort Dodge Women's Club, the Webster County Retired Teachers, and many local, district and state teachers groups including the ISEA, NEA and FDEA. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Beta Sigma Phi. Juanita served on the Fort Dodge Community School Board and was a volunteer for RSVP in the schools and with the Hawkeye Community Theatre.
Juanita is survived by her children, Cheryl Baedke and Edwin Dean Baedke, both of Fort Dodge; four grandsons, two great grandsons and three great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edwin, her sister Aletha Blanchard and her brother Varlo Gibson.
