Isaac Sweetland was born on September 10, 1823 in Detroit, Michigan. Isaac met and married Sarah Elizabeth Bowman in Jeffersonville, Indiana on July 10, 1842. Isaac & Sarah bore 10 children: Benjamin Franklin, Johnathan Spangler, James Isaac, Alonzo, Ezra F, & Experience were born before moving to Kansas. The family arrived in Sabetha, Kansas in 1857 and then Charles, Ira, Steven, & America were born in Kansas. In 1859, Isaac was one of three who incorporated the city of Sabetha. Isaac enlisted on October 7, 1861 and mustered in on October 10, 1861. He was discharged to V.R.C. on June 18, 1864. Isaaac returned to Sabetha. On August 15, 1874; Isaac was elected to the first City Council of Sabetha. Isaac died on December 22, 1902 and is buried in Sabetha Cemetery, Sabetha, Kansas.
