Obituary.

   Mrs Experience Hoopes (nee Sweetland) was born June 9, 1856, near Sabetha, Kansas, where she lived until about thirteen years ago when with her husband and family she moved to Mulhall, Oklahoma.
   While in Kansas she was married to Mr. J. F. Hoopes, March 1, 1889[sic]. To this union were born seven children, five of whom are living: Paul, Harry, Florence, Harvey and Cecil.
   She was converted and joined the Methodist church in Sabetha, Kansas, in 1888, and on moving to Fairview, placed her letter with the Congregational church of that place, and where she has been a member in good standing until a few weeks ago when with her husband she united with the Mulhall M. E. church.
   A mother, a husband, her five children, seven brothers and a host of warm friends are left to mourn their loss; but what to them is loss to her is gain. She is not dead, but sleeps the sleep which wakens in the palaces of her God. There will her spirit wait the coming of loved ones and friends of earth.
   A loved daughter, wife, sister, mother and friend is gone from the trials and cares of this life to be with God in a brighter world. May the mantle of her virtues fall upon the women, old and young, of this community, and upon all who knew her; and as we turn away to wipe the tear of sorrow from our eyes let up make the solemn vow, God being our helper, that we will meet her at the gate of the Beautiful City where death shall never mar our happiness nor trials ever enter.
   The funeral services of Mrs. J. F. Hoopes were held in the Methodist Episcopal church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. A. Burdick, who spoke from the text found in 1 Cor. 15:57-58, "Thanks be to God who giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, for as much as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord."

Mourn not the dead who calmly lie
By God's own hand composed to rest.
For Hark! a voice from yonder sky
Proclaims her blest - supremely blest.
With her the toil and strife is o'er;
Her labors end; her sorrows cease,
For she has gained the blissful shore
Where dwells serene eternal bliss.

Mourn not the dead whose lives declare
That they have nobly borne their part;
For victory's golden crown they wear;
Reserved for every faithful heart.
They rest! with glory wrapped around,
Immortals on the scroll of fame
Their works, there praises shall resound
Their name, an everlasting name.

Drop the warm tear, for Jesus wept;
Sorrow shall find relief in tears,
But let no secret grief be kept
To waste the soul through nameless years.
They rest in hope. Their hallowed dust
Is watched, and from the grave shall rise.
Earth shall restore her sacred dust,
Made all immortal for the skies.
