Pauline Gum, 100, of Goose Creek Road, Waynesboro, died Sunday, July 26, 2009 at Augusta Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Fishersville.
She was born September 17, 1908 in Waynesboro, a daughter of the late Ira Hence ( Bolen) Brooks and Annie Pannell Brooks.

Mrs. Gum was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church and a member of the Von Bora Sunday School Class. She was the oldest living member of the church at her time of death. She enjoyed working in the kitchen for church functions.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wilbur Franklin (Happy) Gum, two brothers, four sisters and a daughter-in-law Sarah Gum.

Survivors include two sons, Franklin E. Gum and wife Donna of Waynesboro, Jerry L. Gum of Waynesboro; two grandchildren, Suzanne Hite and husband Chris, and Paul Gum and wife Kay; six great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday (Aug. 1,2009) at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church by Rev. Robert F. Humphrey. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be Joe Moyer, Ron Knicely, Jimmy Binns, Roger Bowers, Brad Keefer, Al McKechnie and Terry Kirby.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dick Sheaffer, Jennifer Trippeer, Gil Ayers, Chris Heck, Ronnie Nahay, Amelia Moran, Francine Johnson and Chris Hite.

McDow Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
