Dallas County, Iowa.Mapleton Iowa, Special Funeral services for Mrs. Charles Whiting, 71, will be a 11 a.m. Friday at the Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church. The Rev. Paul Tracumer will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope cemetery under direction of the Walter Funeral Home.
Mrs. Whiting died Wednesday at a Sioux City hospital after a short illness.
Mrs. Whiting was born Aug. 12, 1894, near Van Meter Iowa. She moved with her parents to Des Moines where she attended high school and college.
The former Agnes Hester, she taught school at Mapleton for many years before she married Charles G. Whiting June 14, 1917. Mr. Whiting is president of the Maple Trust and Savings Bank.
Mrs. Whiting was a member of the American Iris Society. In 1950, she was host for the National Iris showing in Mapleton. At this showing she was awarded the Dykes Medal, the highest honor given by the organization.
She was a member of the Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church and a charter member of the PEO.
Survivors include the widower; a daughter, Mrs. James Baker of Ankara, Turkey; a son, James of Mapleton; a sister, Mrs. Ann Finch of Arcadia, Calif.; two brothers, W. Earl of Des Moines and Maurice of Alamosa, Colo.
