IOLA, KS — Wilferd P. Troxel, 88, of Salesville, Arkansas, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at his home.
He was born March 19, 1917, in Moran, Kansas, to Harry E. and Eunice (Ranson) Troxel.
He grew up in the LaHarpe and Elsmore, Kansas areas.
He married Myrtle Heren and later divorced.
He later married Donna Dorcas and later divorced.
He spent 26 years in the U.S. Navy serving during World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War. He was a senior chief petty officer when he retired.
After his retirement, he made his home in Salesville. He was a life member of VFW Ozark Post 3246.
Mr. Troxel is survived by a close friend, Cleo Smith of Iola, KS; four sons, Walter of Arizona, Michael of Boise, ID, Charles Edgar of Portland, ME, and Scott of Glouchester, VA; two daughters, Mildred Owens of Vancouver, WA, and Theresa Atkinson of Salesville, AR; two brothers, Charles Troxel of Iola, KS, and Harold Troxel of Portland, OR; two sisters, Edith Roush of Iola, KS, and Hazel Laver of Humbolt, KS; and a number of grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Wilferd Jr.; three brothers, Floyd, Art, and Pat; and a sister, Ruby Cochran.
Funeral will be Saturday at Waugh-Yokim & Friskel Chapel with the Rev. Lloyd Houk officiating. Burial will be at LeHarpe Cemetery, La Harpe, Kansas.
