Dorothy "June" Freeman Lyons
age 82, of Lexington, passed away after a struggle with lung cancer Monday, December 29, 2008, in the care of her family. She was born June 29, 1926 in Dickenson County, VA, the daughter of Charles and Laruah Freeman. She was a member of Southern Hills United Methodist Church. Before moving to Lexington, she lived most of her adult life in Pikeville, where she worked for the Kentucky Department of Highways and was an active member of Pikeville United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Joseph "Joe" Lyons, three daughters, Teresa (John) Hancock of Sumter, SC, Carolyn (Don) Hall of Pikeville and Cynthia (Mike) Peffers of Gainesville, VA; four grandchildren, Anne Marie (Justin) Horn, Kris Hall, Patrick (Leigh Ann) Hall and Brian Hancock; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Barbara Burkins of Boca Raton, FL and Geneva Richardson of Milan, OH. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2009 at Milward-Southland with Rev. Harold Dorsey officiating. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm. Thursday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy are requested as donations to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
