George Christian Hipskind, 72, prominent retired building contractor of Wabash, died in his home, 277 West Sinclair street, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Mr. Hipskind, who was also owner of a coal company for many years, had been ill for more than 20 months.
He was born in this county June 4, 1872 and is the second of 12 children of Philip and Anna (Fleck) Hipskind to die. A brother, Adam Hipskind, Huntington, preceded him in death several months ago.
On July 30, 1892 he married Miss Ella K. Moore, who with three daughters and three sons survives. The daughters are Mrs. Larry Myers, Fort Wayne, Mrs. Howard J. Smith and Mrs. L.I. Rotterman, both of Dayton, O., and the sons are Ray P. Hipskind, Whiting, Steven Hipskind, Wabash and Ben Hipskind, U.S. armed services overseas. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Herman, Al, Edward and Sam Hipskind, Wabash, John F., Richmond, Will, Fort Wayne, Bernard, Marion, Mrs. Margaret Baumbauer, Wabash, Mrs. Mary Moore, Wabash, and Mrs. Ruth Moore, Lagro.
Mr. Hipskind was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic church where services will be held Friday morning at 9 o'clock following short services at 8:30 o'clock in the family residence. The Rev. Leo A. Hoffmann will officiate and #burial will be in Falls cemetery. The body will be taken from the Hoover Funeral home to the family home Wednesday afternoon where friends may call. The Rosary will be recited Thursday evening there following the Holy services in the St. Bernard's church.
