Raymond H. "Bill" Bryant
Raymond H. " Bill " Bryant 59. former Deputy Sheriff of Clay County and resident R. R. 1, Bowling Green, died at 5:30 a. m. Sunday, at the St. Anthony's Hospital Terre Haute, where he had been confined since Feb. 24, 1973.
Having only been in ill health since January of this year, and hospitalized at the Clay County Hospital from Feb. 8, 1973 to the 24th his sudden death came as a severe shock to his family and host of friends, who knew him for his jovial nature and willingness to help others.
Bryant was born on December 27, 1913 at Mooresville, the son of the late Vernie C. and Ida (Halfhill) Bryant, and his younger years were spent in that area.
Following his marriage to Mary Kathryn (Stephens) on August 20, I934 at Brazil they moved to the Bowling Green community and have resided there since.
The past 21 years Bryant has spent in law enforcement work having served as Deputy Sheriff of Clay County under former sheriffs Martin H. Slack, William Bill Downing and Glenn A. Van Horn. At the time of his death, he was employed by the Pinkerton Security Guard at the Colombia Records Plant in Terre Haute, where he had worked for the past 3 years.
He was a member of the Bowling Green United Methodist Church and Brazil Lodge No. 11 of the Fraternal Order of Police and a former of the Odd Fellows Lodge at Cory
Survivors include the wife Mrs. Kathryn " Kate " Bryant a daughter Mrs. Burl Kathy Ann Burch of Jacksville, Fla one granddaughter Pamela three brothers, Cecil of Indianapolis, Clifford of Amo and Everett of Jamestown several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son Monty in 1940.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a. m. Wednesday at the Rentschler Funeral Home in Center Point. The Rev. Robert K. Garner, minster of the Blowing Green United Methodist Church, will officiate and burial will be Zion cemetery, Friends may call at the Rentschler Funeral Home after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday.
