LOGAN- Alverta Briggs Goodwin, 91, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away from natural causes at her home on May 25, 2007 to return to her Heavenly Father and son, Jerry.

Born January 6, 1916 in Beaver, Utah to Joseph Briggs and Lavina Hoopes. Virgie graduated from Beaver High School and then married her sweetheart, Guy Clark Goodwin on March 1, 1933 who was by her side for 74 years. Their marriage was solemnized in the St George Temple in May of 2000. Virgie's lifetime career was raising two wonderful sons, Jerry and Cullen. She was an accomplished singer, seamstress, and cook, winning numerous awards at county fairs. Her recipes will be treasured for generations to come.

She was active in the LDS church and her favorite calling was that of Relief Society Counselor. She was also active in the community and served as President of the Union Pacific Junior Old Timers. She was a great financier, meticulous in her looks and dress and lived her life with the attitude of, "Whatever you do, do it right."

Virgie is survived by her husband, Clark Goodwin, son Cullen (Alberta) Goodwin, Murray, Ut, and daughter-in-law, Viola Goodwin, Logan, Ut. Her Grand children are, Kathi (Doug) George, Salt Lake City, Ut, Les (Anna) Goodwin, Salt Lake City, Ut, Robert (Cleo) Goodwin, Hyrum, Ut, Roger (Carly) Goodwin, West Haven, Ut, Teresa (Kurt) Illum, Seattle, Wa, Mark Goodwin, Brentwood, Ca, Shelly (Rod) Flanigan, Bluffdale, Ut, Allison (Steve) Milne, Logan, Ut, along with 22 grand children and 3, soon to be 4, great great grand children.

Also surviving are her sisters, Melba (Bob) Johnson, West Bountiful, Ut, Ila Mae (Stan) Julian, St. George, Ut, Zola (Cliff) Halsey, Cedar City, Ut, and Lois (Jerry) Atkins, Phoenix, Az. Brothers, Lamar (Pearl) Briggs, Beaver, Ut, and Karl (Irene) Briggs, St. George, Ut.

She was preceded in death by her son Jerry, her sister, Lenore Swindelhurst, and her parents.

Family will greet friends at a viewing at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, at the Allen- Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center, Logan, Utah. Internment and graveside services will be at Logan City Cemetery at 3:30 PM. Condolences may be sent to the family at Allen Mortuaries.

The family would like to thank the Logan Regional Hospital staff, Alpine Hospice staff, and management at Pioneer Valley Lodge where she and her husband have resided for the last four years.
