"OBITUARY OF GRANDMA PATCH
Eliza C Smith was born in Susquehanna Co, PA on Apr 24, 1840 and died in Buffalo, WY on Aug 13, 1924 at the age of 84 years, 3 months and nineteen days. With her parents she moved from PA to Clayton Co, IA in 1856 and was married to Charles N Patch on Sep 20, 1857. Later they moved to Webster Co, where they settled on the Des Moines River, a short distance below Ft Dodge. She was the mother of 5 children, only two of whom survive her, Walter and Murray Patch, both residents of this county.
In the spring of 1884, they left IA and settled on a homestead in Custer Co, NE, where they lived until the summer of 1909, when they came to Buffalo in order to be near their sons, both of whom were located here. She lies buried in Willow Grove Cemetery beside her husband, who died in Buffalo on May 25, 1911. Born of the great common people, she chose to spend her life among them. She retained her faculties, both mental and physical to a remarkable degree up to the day of the affliction, which resulted in her death.
Early in life, she became affiliated with the church and had an abiding faith in the life eternal, oft times saying that she was patiently awaiting for the summons to join the loved ones who had gone before. She is gone from us now but her influence will live on in the lives of those who were privileged to know her and the world will be the better therefore."
