"MURRAY PATCH, SR, EARLY DAY RANCHER, DIES HERE DEC. 29
Murray Patch, 86-year-old pioneer Johnson County rancher, died Monday morning at the local hospital. He had suffered a stroke early in Nov and after several weeks confinement to the hospital, was transferred to a local nursing home. He suffered a second attack Sunday evening and was taken back to the hospital but was unable to recover.

Mr Patch was born Sep 27, 1872 in Webster County, IA on the homestead of his parents. He first came to WY in a covered wagon in 1896 to visit his brother, the late Walter Patch, Sr and remained in this area for a year, working for Al Long on Piney Creek on what is now the L.A. Wuthier Ranch. He married in 1893 to Sarah Prudence Smith at Broken Bow, NE and the couple returned to Johnson County in 1900 and filed on a homestead on the little North Fork of Crazy Woman.

In 1907, Mr and Mrs Patch moved into Buffalo, WY and their sons took over the ranch operations. Mr Patch served as deputy county clerk from 1910-1912 and the latter year he was elected County Assessor, holding that office until 1929. Then he was elected representative in the state legislature for two years. He was known as one of the most accommodating officials Johnson county ever had, and through his uniform fairness and splendid knowledge of property values, was acclaimed as outstanding assessor. He was a member of the local Federal Land Bank Board for a long period and was always keenly interested in all civic movements, tending to aid in the development of the county.

Mr Patch was a former member of Buffalo Lodge #14, IOOF, and a member of the Congregational Church. He is survived by three daughters; Mrs Dave Elsom and Mrs William Campbell of Buffalo and Mrs Dean Graves of Kaycee; three sons; Ellis and Murray Jr of Buffalo and Charles of Alexandria, VA; 14 grandchildren and 17 g-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, here in 1928, and a daughter.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday at 2:30pm from the Congregational Church with the Rev Irving C Campbell officiating. Mrs Ray McCrea, soloist, will sing "The Old Rugged Cross" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". Mrs R McBride will provide organ accompaniment. Burial will be in the family plot at Willow Grove Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Dewey McAllister, Dr W J Knebel, Bert Taylor, William Potts, Wallace Kitchel and W H Jones."
