Rev. Leroy Porter was the youngest of nine children born to Harrison and Pearlie Porter, on April 5, 1916, in Lake Providence, Louisiana.
He accepted Christ as his Saviour and united with the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church at an early age.
On January 8, 1936, he was joined in holy wedlock to Miss Martha Jones. To this union, one child was born.
In 1946, he moved with his family to Los Angles, California. He worked as a mechanic and painter, and served as a cook in the US Army, in World War II. He later united with the Morning Star Baptist Church, under the pastorate of Rev. PJ Ellis, where he remained a faithful member until his passing.
Rev. Porter was a servant of God who showed to the world, by precept and example, that he was a child of God. He was a quite man, but when he talked about the goodness of the Lord, he let the world know which side he had chosen and that he was standing on the promises of God. He was called home, Saturday, April 7, 1979, at 11:25PM.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Martha Porter; a daughter Gaynell Porter; three brother, Walter, Jimmy and Jack Porter; five sisters, Louellyn Porter, Martha Jackson, Mamie REed, Rachel Porter, and Rose Porter; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
He graduated from elementary school and high school in Lake Providence, La.
We loved him, but God loved him best.
