A former long time resident of Winnfield and a member of a pioneer Winn Parish and Winnfield family, Mrs. Nellie Durham Richardson, widow of the late Jesse W. Richardson, died in Groves, Texas, August 7, 1971, where she had made her home for the past few years. Prior to moving to Groves, Mrs. Richardson had lived in Denham Springs for a number of years. She was more than 91 years of age, having been born in Winn Parish south of Winnfield on March 22, 1880, the daughter of Thomas B. and Martha Durham who moved from Georgia to Winn Parish in the early 1850s.

Mrs. Richardson and her husband lived in Winnfield more than thirty years and all their eight children were graduated from Winnfield High School and attended church and Sunday school in the First Baptist Church of Winnfield.

Funeral services were held in Groves, Texas, Sunday, August 8, and Mrs. Richardson was buried in the old family cemetery at Sardis on Monday, August 9.

Surviving Mrs. Richardson are seven children; two daughters, Mrs. Aliene Hays of Franklin, Texas and Mrs. Helen Garrett of San Antonio, Texas; five sons, J. Eugene Richardson and Lloyd E. Richardson, of Port Arthur, Texas; Cheslie E. Richardson and R. Leo Richardson of Groves, Texas; and Joseph W. Richardson of Arlington, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. R. E. Mathews of Winnfield and Mrs. D. H. Wallace of Verda, La.; two brothers, R. L. Durham of Merryville, La., and Thomas B. Durham of Houston, Texas.

Mrs. Richardson had 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
