INDIANAPOLIS - Memorial services for Bruce Wayne DeArmond, 58, will be at 10 a.m. July 25, 2009, at Emergency Services Education Center in Indianapolis, Ind.

Mr. DeArmond, 58, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2009. Bruce was born Oct. 27, 1950, in Lubbock to Jesse and Verna DeArmond. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1969 and joined the U.S. Navy shortly after graduation. He served six years in the Navy. He met his wife, Helen, in Millington, Tenn., and they were married Nov. 3, 1973. He was a respiratory therapist for more than 30 years before retiring.

He is survived by his wife, Helen DeArmond, of the home; mother, Verna "Nell" DeArmond of Gibson, Ill.; sister, Sherry DeArmond of Gibson City, Ill.; brother, Gary DeArmond of Atlanta, Ga.; four daughters, Dawn, Stephanie, Amanda and Tanya, all of Indianapolis; six biological grandchildren, Tiler Melton, Jolean Reed, Maddison Krebs, Wyatt and Emma Anderson and Landon Parker; one step-grandson, Austin Parker; two nephews; and three nieces.

He was proceeded in death by his father, Jesse DeArmond; and granddaughter, Alina Parker.

"Uncle Bruce was cremated and his ashes were dumped out at sea. Helen and the girls got some people on a ship to have it done. Took a lot of work, not something they do much anymore. But She made it happen. There isn't currently, and probably will never be a headstone or resting place for him."
